ReVitaLaser - Frequently Asked Questions about toner cartridges, printers, supplies and more
Q. What does OEM mean?
A. Original Equipment Manufacturer. For example, a Hewlett Packard OEM toner cartridge would be a new HP toner manufactured by HP for a specific HP printer.

Q. What's the difference between new vs. remanufactured?
A. Sometimes very little. The fine print on many new cartridge boxes includes a brief and often ambiguous statements about the inclusion of used or "recovered" parts in their "new" cartridges. In other words, more and more toner cartridges being sold as new are partially remanufactured.

Q. How can I be sure the OEM cartridges I buy are genuine?
A. Cartridge knockoffs are flooding into the U.S. from the same countries exporting cheap designer watches and handbags. Customers purchasing knockoffs get a nice counterfeit OEM box containing an inferior remanufactured cartridge at a price that's usually less than OEM but more than a premium ReVitaLized cartridge.

Q. How can I avoid getting cheated?
A. Other than a high failure rate, it's almost impossible to spot a knockoff without disassembling the cartridge. Even national corporate retailers are unwittingly selling knockoffs. That's why it's important to make sure your suppliers accept defective returns. And to remember the simple rule - that if the price seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Q. How can OEM pricing vary so much between suppliers?
A. In addition to knockoffs major retailers use popular cartridges as short-lived loss-leaders. Sometimes, what seems like a bargain price is actually an overpriced low yield cartridges. Saving 30% only seems like a great deal to those who don't realize they're only getting 50% of the printing capacity.

Q. Do ReVitaLized toner cartridges void a printer's warranty?
A. No! It is a violation of Federal law to void a warranty for using remanufactured cartridges.

Q. Why buy from a supplier that offers repairs?
A. Printer techs are notorious for blaming problems on remanufactured cartridges. Sometimes it's a bias based on hearsay or a past experiences with poorly remanufactured cartridges. Too often it's a way to sell expensive new toners. Purchasing quality remanufactured toners from a reputable repair center eliminates getting caught in the middle of finger pointing between technicians and suppliers who refuse to assume responsibility.
